Tupelo, MIssissippi, 27 December 1891: Birth Notice Born today was one Abe Plough, son of Moses and Julia Isaacs Plough, becoming the youngest of eight children. The family will relocate to Memphis TN next year. There, Abe will begin selling a batch of cottonseed oil, camphor and carbolic acid as "antiseptic oils" door-to-door. In 1908, based on the success of these sales, Moses Plough will loan Abe $125 to start his own business, the Plough Chemical Company. See [ http://www.jhsmem.org/SHNewsletters/SHNDec1991.pdf ] for a discussion of this time of his life.

In that year, national advertising of Company products will begin. Later mergers will transform the Company into Schering-Plough, then Merck. See [ https://en.wikipedia.com/wiki/Schering-Plough ]
