Information and Mahogany piano photo from [ antiquepianoshop.com ] :

"The Poole Piano Company was established by William H. Poole in Boston in 1893. One of Boston’s finest and most respected old names, The Poole Piano Company name was produced for nearly a century. During the early 20th Century, Poole offered several lines of upright pianos, grand pianos and player pianos. In 1917, the firm was incorporated by William Poole’s son, Ava W. Poole.

"Instruments by The Poole Piano Company were exceedingly well made and very expensive. Because of their high cost when new, Poole pianos were not produced in high volume like most other major manufacturers. In the mid-20th Century, the Poole name was absorbed into the giant Aeolian-American Corporation, and Aeolian continued to build the Poole name until the early 1980s."

Tupelo, MIssissippi, 27 December 1891: Birth Notice Born today was one Abe Plough, son of Moses and Julia Isaacs Plough, becoming the youngest of eight children. The family will relocate to Memphis TN next year. There, Abe will begin selling a batch of cottonseed oil, camphor and carbolic acid as "antiseptic oils" door-to-door. In 1908, based on the success of these sales, Moses Plough will loan Abe $125 to start his own business, the Plough Chemical Company. See [ http://www.jhsmem.org/SHNewsletters/SHNDec1991.pdf ] for a discussion of this time of his life.

Plough Chemical will become successful enough to purchase the St. Joseph Company in 1920 and begin selling their best-selling aspirin. In that year, national advertising of Company products will begin. Later mergers will transform the Company into Schering-Plough, then Merck. See [ https://en.wikipedia.com/wiki/Schering-Plough ]

Before Abe dies in 1984, some 92 years from now, he will become well-known not only as a wealthy businessman, but also for his philanthropy. See [ https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/39631733/abe-plough ]
